Jackknife (by Joe Hill)

As a devoted Joe Hill reader, I’m always thrilled when he releases a short story. It keeps me patient while eagerly anticipating his next full-length novel. Fortunately, his next novel, King Sorrow, is scheduled for release on October 21, 2025.

Available for free to Amazon Prime Members, Jackknife is a captivating tale about a uniquely vengeful tree. During a nature walk, Dennis Lange encounters a magnificent sycamore tree with an old jackknife stuck in its trunk. Dennis, who has always wanted to own a jackknife since childhood, is unaware of the dire consequences he’ll unleash when he removes it.

Joe Hill’s signature blend of horror and humor is evident in Jackknife, making it an excellent short story. It’s part of The Shivers collection and is available on Kindle and Audible. I particularly enjoyed listening to the audiobook narrated by Robert Fass.
