This is my first time reading Samantha Downing’s work, and it definitely won’t be my last! Sleeping Dogs Lie is a thriller novella that I acquired through my Audible membership, and is only available on Audible. Shelby, a dog walker in Northern California, returns a gorgeous husky named Pluto to his owner’s house. But when she gets there, she finds Todd Burke dead on the bathroom floor. Police arrive to investigate and interview Shelby. They learn that Todd is the founder of an organic supplements company and is going through a divorce. The investigation looks into all the usual suspects: any problems with the business, conflicts with neighbors, and affairs.
At just over two hours, this novella impressed me with its twist and surprising outcome! It’s a clever crime thriller that I really enjoyed. The story is told from two perspectives: Shelby the dog walker, which is narrated by Lindsey Dorcus, and the detective, which is narrated by Melanie Nicholls-King. Sleeping Dogs Lie was a great fit for me because I love crime thrillers and I especially adore dogs. This is the perfect read for any animal lover.
