Choice (by Jodi Picoult)

Jodi Picoult turns the tables in this Only From Audible short story, “Choice.” James, a man who had ended his relationship with his girlfriend due to his aversion to having children, found himself unexpectedly pregnant one morning. As he navigated his day, he faced the judgments and biases of his colleagues and strangers. James’s experience was not isolated; he was not the only man affected by this unexpected turn of events. Men across the globe were waking up pregnant and subjected to the daily ridicule that pregnant women often endure.

At just 38 minutes, Picoult’s short story, “Choice,” was written in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. She generously donated her Audible payment for the story to the National Network of Abortion Funds. Therese Plummer’s exceptional narration brought the story to life and imbued it with a sense of personality. I acquired “Choice” through my Audible membership.
